Description

From a 29 foot compass that ushers you into their lobby, featuring 4 breathtaking elephants at the North, South, East, and West points, it is a floor like no other. This 9,600 square feet of terrazzo floor became the canvas for what developed into a stunning visual that envelops the resort guest into a world away. The project was scheduled during Kalahari's short non-peak season. Using photographs taken on the various trips, Africa’s iconic animals and surroundings became the template for the floor, the project captured these moments in time with over 40 colors of tinted resin combined with marble aggregates, clear resin, torpedo sand, glass, and mother of pearl. The crew worked around the clock, building each “scene” separately, and with precise measurements, connected each area together seamlessly. Kalahari Resort's lobby is the central hub of the resort from which all other areas are accessed. Working in this resort setting the installation had to be completed with no down time in the lobby or guest areas. There are a total of 7 different, life size, animals used in the project. Each one placed into an environment that reflects their natural habitat. The project features a Giraffe herd, male Lion, Bull Elephant, a flock of Flamingos, as well as a Zebra herd captured in motion. When you enter the resort, you feel as though you are transported into a magical map that takes you on Safari, to a world beyond…
