Medical facilities are often challenging because careful consideration must be taken to address physical limitations of patients who may be visiting the facility. North Memorial’s newest facility carefully matches aesthetics with actual use. Grazzini worked with the architect and contractor to develop a flooring system that would not impede patients’ mobility. Tile was installed with 1/8 th inch joints. To achieve this, tile was ordered rectified from Europe to ensure uniform sizes. Further care was taken in the grouting phase. Tile setters hand-rubbed every joint to ensure full-depth coverage. The final affect is a beautiful, even surface that wheel chairs and canes can easily traverse.
