Company History

In 1920, two brothers, Frank and August Grazzini formed a partnership installing cement walks. In 1923, August and Bill Marcantelli, Sr. joined the Grazzinis in business and added terrazzo to their services. Their belief in the American dream coupled with their old-world knowledge of craftsmanship and artistry provided the foundation for what is now considered the premier contractor of tile, terrazzo and stone. Through the years, there have been many changes and tremendous growth, but the core values of the company have always stayed constant. Timeline

1920 Frank and August Grazzini formed a partnership installing cement walks and other concrete work.

1923 August and Bill Maracantelli, Sr. joined the business. With the added help, the brothers were able to expand their cement work and add small terrazzo installations to their services.

1927 The Grazzinis and Marcantellis incorporated officially forming, “Grazzini Brothers and Company”. The company growth was also earmarked by the purchase of our first building at 620 16 th Avenue South in Minneapolis.

1929 We completed our first major terrazzo installation at Minnehaha Academy. Our company’s reputation for quality work continued to grow after the completion of terrazzo installation at the Academy of Holy Angels in 1932. Through the 20’s and early 30’s, we were completing projects throughout the Midwest. In addition to terrazzo, services were expanded to include asphalt tile work.

1933 Gene (Sr.) was hired full time as the company bookkeeper.

1937 Ceramic tile was added to the operation and Gene (Sr.) was named as its manager.

1940’s Provided steady growth. Completion of the Veterans Hospitals in Grand Island Omaha, Nebraska helped solidify our company’s reputation as a quality driven company.

1950’s Seamless epoxy flooring was added to the services provided.

1958 Gene Sr. was named President.

1959 The third generation of Grazzinis was added to the company with the full time employment of Gene Jr. as a project manager and estimator.

 

1960-70s Our company’s growth and service positioned us as a leader in the Midwest for terrazzo and tile installation. We completed several complicated and innovative projects including the revitalization of downtown Minneapolis’s shopping district and the Seattle Space Needle.

1980’s Our work expanded beyond the Midwest. Projects completed included:

  • IBM in Austin, Texas
  • Registry Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona
  • VA Hospitals in Seattle, Washington
  • Trippler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.

1990’s Large and innovative projects were the hallmark of the 90’s.

Projects included:

  • The Duluth Image Wall
  • The Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota
  • Denver International Airport, Denver, Colorado
  • Dulles International Airport, Washington D.C.
  • Marshall Fields, Northbrook, Illinois
  • U.S. Navy Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia
  • Coors Field, Denver Colorado
  • Enron Field, Houston, Texas
  • Teva Pharmaceutical Laboratories in Tel Aviv, Israel

Today, our award winning work in terrazzo, tile and stone continues to keep us an industry leader. Our workmanship is recognized both in the Midwest and nationally. We continue to strive for excellence and customer satisfaction. We have added commercial carpeting and residential stone to our list of services in an effort to meet the demands of our customers.
